I am going to state the obvious today. Get some sleep! Honestly, I get tired and sleepy and instead of finding a place to stop, I check email one more time. I know that I am less productive when I am tired. I make mistakes when I'm tired. I'm grumpy when I'm tired. I'm going to go to bed now, if it's after 10:00 p.m. when you read this you should too ... Yes, I do spend too much time in front of the computer screen. Sometimes I don't even realize that I've been sitting at the computer for hours. This is not good for my back, wrists, neck and eyes. In order to force myself to take a break, I set a timer for an hour. When the timer goes off I get up, stretch, jog in place, lift some hand weights, get a drink, or do something to get my blood flowing for... (more)

Geek Healthy is a blog devoted to making sure I stay healthy while working on a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology. I've noticed a direct correlation between the time I spend at the computer screen and an increase in the numerical value of the reading on my bathroom scale. The first thing I am doing to improve the quality of my time at the computer is replacing my big black rolling chair with an exercise ball. The exercise ball forces me to balance myself and sit up straight. I also roll back and forth a bit and exercise my legs. This seems to cut down on stiffness and fatigue in my back. I think it's a good first step in my healthy geek lifestyle!
